Delivery partners working with quick commerce platforms such as Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Blinkit, etc.,  across India have announced plans for a nationwide strike, demanding an end to the pressure of 10-minute delivery timelines and what they describe as exploitative platform practices.

The call for an all-India strike was given by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, which took to X to declare that a larger protest is planned for December 31, after a series of flash strikes. “Picture abhi baaki hai,” the union said, asserting that delivery workers will not submit to ID blocking, threats, or algorithmic control.

The protests are being supported by the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT), which said the movement reflects growing unity among gig workers across states.

Delivery partners associated with major platforms including Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, and Blinkit have participated in bike rallies and street demonstrations, raising concerns over safety risks linked to ultra-fast delivery expectations.

According to worker unions, the 10-minute delivery model encourages unsafe riding, increases stress, and exposes delivery partners to penalties such as sudden ID blocking and reduced incentives.

The unions are demanding fair wages, safer delivery norms, transparency in algorithms, and access to social security benefits.

The flash strikes which were held during the Christmas period, unions said, are only the beginning, with a larger nationwide shutdown planned around New Year’s Eve if platforms fail to address their demands.
