Punjab Police have arrested a man from Pathankot for allegedly spying for Pakistan by secretly monitoring the movement of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces, as per reports. The accused, identified as Baljit Singh, had reportedly installed a CCTV camera near National Highway-44 on the Pathankot-Jammu route to track military activity.

According to reports citing police, Baljit Singh, also known as Bittu, placed the internet-based camera at a shop near a bridge in Sujanpur earlier this year. The live footage was allegedly shared with handlers based in Pakistan and other countries. During questioning, Singh admitted that he was in contact with an unknown person from Dubai, who guided him and paid him around ₹40,000 for the work.

Police reportedly recovered the CCTV camera and a WiFi router from his possession. After receiving intelligence inputs about suspicious activities on the highway stretch, police registered a case against four people, including Singh. Raids are currently being carried out to catch the remaining accused.

Officials said the investigation is focused on finding links between the accused and Pakistan-based networks, along with tracking the source of funding behind the operation.

Last month, Punjab Police had busted two similar spy modules that were using China-made solar-powered CCTV cameras to secretly monitor military locations and send live footage to Pakistan-based handlers. Police said these cameras worked through SIM cards and 4G networks, making them difficult to detect.
