Professor and students accused of assault after 19-year-old dies in Himachal’s Dharamshala

Police in Himachal Pradesh have filed a case against a college professor and three female students following the allegations of ragging and sexual misconduct that are linked to the death of a 19-year-old female student in Dharamshala, as per reports.
The case pertains to alleged incidents that reportedly occurred in September 2025.
According to the complaint reported submitted by the victim’s father, his daughter was allegedly subjected to physical abuse and intimidation by three fellow students, while a faculty member is accused of engaging in inappropriate and offensive conduct. The complaint states that the repeated harassment left the victim deeply distressed and fearful, severely affecting her mental and physical well-being.
According to the reports, As her condition deteriorated, she received treatment at several hospitals within Himachal Pradesh. She was later shifted to a medical facility in Ludhiana for advanced care, where she passed away during her treatment on December 26, 2025.
The family informed the police that the delay in filing the complaint was due to the prolonged medical emergency and the trauma they experienced following her death.
Police officials said the case was registered after a preliminary review of the complaint and initial verifications of the facts. Investigators will examine allegations of ragging, assault, intimidation, and sexual misconduct and assess how these factors may have contributed to her declining health and eventual death.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Jairam Thakur described the case as “shocking and shameful” and alleged police negligence in the case. He called for an independent, high-level inquiry to ensure accountability and justice for the victim.
Police officials have stated that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and without any bias, and that strict action will be taken and justice will be served.
