Three pilgrims died and six others sustained injuries after a runaway private bus ploughed into a crowd near the Pataliya Pir Dargah in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district on Saturday night.

The vehicle lost control while descending a steep gradient near the popular shrine in the Bhimsagar area, crushing devotees gathered at the base of the slope.

Devotees Crushed Returning from Shrine

Victims had gathered at the Patlapeer Dargah to pay homage and were preparing to return when the incident occurred. The runaway bus swerved into the crowd, trapping multiple bystanders underneath.

Emergency teams evacuated the injured to nearby medical facilities in Khanpur and Jhalawar. Hamid Khan, a resident of Ramganjmandi in Kota district, succumbed to his injuries at the Khanpur Hospital.

Two more victims, identified as Rehan (20) and Talib, both hailing from Ramganjmandi, passed away during emergency treatment at the SRG Hospital in Jhalawar. 

Another victim, Alfaz(25) from Kota's Govind Nagar, remains in critical condition inside the intensive care unit.

Administrative Response and Technical Probe

Senior district officials, including Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Sajid Khan and Medical College Dean Dr Sanjay Porwal, rushed to SRG Hospital to supervise emergency care and coordinate medical resources.

Local police units have impounded the private vehicle and initiated a formal investigation to determine whether the crash stemmed from mechanical brake failure or driver negligence along the incline.
