The SC Collegium also reiterated the transfer of three SC judges
President Droupadi Murmu on July 12 appointed Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and SV Bhatti as judges of the Supreme Court, taking the judges’ strength, including the Chief Justice of India (CJI), to 32, with a sanctioned strength of 34.
Two judges were appointed to the SC
Justices Ujjawal Bhuyan and SV Bhatti were elevated from Telangana High Court and Kerala High Court respectively, on the recommendation of Supreme Court Collegium on July 5. Both the promoted judges are currently serving as chief justices in their respective courts.
The Collegium that recommended the two judges consisted of CJI DY Chandrachud, and four senior judges, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant.
Three judges transferred
The same SC Collegium had recommended and reiterated the transfer of three high court judges as follows.
Justice Manoj Bajaj of the Punjab & Haryana HC to Allahabad High Court, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court to Kerala High Court, and Justice Gaurang Kanth of Delhi High Court to Kolkata High Court.
A copy of the resolutions by the SC Collegium was accessed by Gujarat Samachar, and it was stated that the Collegium had found no merit in the requests of these three judges to continue at their current high courts.
On July 5, the SC Collegium proposed the three judges’ transfers for ‘better administration of justice’. The same was reiterated on July 12 by its order.
