A 27-year-old Delhi Police commando, who was four months pregnant, died after allegedly being brutally assaulted by her husband in a dowry-related domestic dispute in Delhi. The incident has sparked outrage and once again highlighted the persistent issue of violence against women over dowry demands, as per reports.

The victim, identified as Kajal, was serving with the Delhi Police Special Cell’s SWAT team. According to reports, she had been facing regular physical abuse from her husband, Ankur, and his family over dowry. Kajal’s father stated that she was four months pregnant at the time of the attack and that both she and her unborn child lost their lives. He reportedly described the incident as “not one, but two murders.”

As per reports, police said the incident took place on the night of January 22  around 10 pm at the couple’s residence in Delhi. During a violent altercation, Ankur allegedly attacked Kajal, repeatedly slamming her head against a door and striking her with a dumbbell, causing severe head injuries. A forensic examination of the house later revealed bloodstains on the door frame and the dumbbell believed to have been used in the assault.

After the attack, Kajal was rushed to Tarak Hospital in Mohan Garden in a critical condition. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, where she succumbed to her injuries on January 27. Police reportedly confirmed that Ankur himself took her to the hospital following the incident.

According to family members, Kajal completed her graduation in 2022, during which she met Ankur, a resident of Sonipat, Haryana. Their friendship later turned into a relationship, and the couple got married with the consent of both families. However, her brother and father alleged that harassment began just 15 days after the wedding, with demands for a car and additional dowry.

Kajal was selected as a SWAT commando with the Delhi Police in 2023. Ankur, meanwhile, worked as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence. The couple moved to Delhi in 2024, but the abuse reportedly continued, with Ankur allegedly pressuring Kajal for money and a car.

The victim’s brother reportedly said that Ankur called him shortly after the assault and confessed to killing Kajal, asking the family to take her body . The family rushed to Delhi and filed a complaint.

A murder case has been registered against Ankur. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody , while police continue their investigation.
