In a major development, Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot gave sanction for prosecution against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today in connection with the irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The development is a major setback for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress government in Karnataka.

"As directed by the Hon'ble Governor, I am enclosing herewith, the copy of the decision of the Competent Authority on the request of sanction for prosecution against the Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah, under Section 17 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 for the commission of the alleged offenses mentioned in the petitions," the order stated.

Social activists Pradeep Kumar SP, TJ Abraham, and Snehamayi Krishna had  filed petitions accusing Siddaramaiah of misusing his office to secure fraudulent land documents and allot sites in his wife’s name. The allegations involve land irregularities in the MUDA scam.

In response to the Governor's decision, Tejasvi Surya, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and MP, welcomed the sanction and demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation. Surya emphasized that the prosecution's approval would ensure a thorough investigation and called for Siddaramaiah to step down to facilitate a fair inquiry.

Further fuelling its attack against the CM, BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra thanked the governor for allowing the prosecution of Siddaramaiah.

Contrarily, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has firmly ruled out resigning, that he will fight the charges legally.“It is a conspiracy against the Congress government. The BJP and JD (S) parties along with the central government have joined hands in this. The high command is with me, the entire cabinet is with me. The government is with me. All MLAs are with me,” he said

This is a political ploy, and there is no question of my resignation. The Governor is being used as a political weapon. They cannot tolerate the success of the Congress government and its guarantee schemes,” he further said.
