Modi in Lok Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address today, launched a series of attack towards the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

PM Modi’s criticism of the Congress came amid loud protests and chaos by the Opposition benches, even drawing warnings from Speaker Om Birla.

PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment and resolve towards public welfare, amid pandemonium and loud slogan-shouting by the Opposition members.

He also took a stinging jibe at the Congress-led INDIA bloc and said that the Opposition suffered defeat despite propagating a series of lies.

PM Modi said that the people of the country have given a decisive mandate but some continue to writhe in pain, which is understandable.

“Earlier, Tushtikaran (Appeasement) model of governance dominated the discourse but today, Santushikaran (satisfaction) of all classes is the government’s mantra for governance,” PM Modi said.

Modi on RaGa’s ‘Hindus’ remark

Modi took objection to the portrayal of Hindus as a “violent community” by the Congress and said that such adventurism will go down in the history as a blot on part of the grand old party.

PM Modi, referring to Swami Vivekanand’s speech in Chicago (US), said that 131 years ago, the Indian icon told the global community that he comes from a religion that teaches tolerance but today, blatant “false” campaigns are underway to “undermine and sully” the community.

Prime minister, objecting to flaunting of posters of Hindu deities in the House, said that God’s every form is for paying obeisance and worshipping and not for serving personal interests.

“Jinke darshan hote hain, unke pradarshan nahin hote (God is meant for worshipping, not for brandishing),” PM Modi, referring to the incident when LoP Rahul Gandhi waved Lord Shiva posters while replying to the Motion of Thanks to President’s address in Lok Sabha.

Criticism on Congress’ approach

During his speech, PM Modi said this was the third biggest defeat for the Congress as it failed to cross the 100-seat mark for the third time, but that hasn’t opened its eyes.

“Instead of doing self-introspection over subsequent poll debacles, they are more interested in doing ‘Shirshashan’,” PM Modi said, poking fun at Congress.

PM Modi said the Congress and its whole ecosystem are now engaged in making a ‘kid’ happier over poll results, in an apparent reference to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Metaphors and a film-reference in Modi’s speech

He also mentioned the story of a student and cited a character from the film ‘Sholay’ to deride the Congress and the Leader of Opposition.

“People used to commend a student with 99 marks moving around with arrogance. His histrionics were called out when his teacher came and called out his bluff. The student fetched 99 out of 543 marks and not out of 100,” he said, eliciting cheers from the treasury benches.

Citing the ‘Mausi’ character from the cult Hindi film ‘Sholay’, Modi said, “The statements of Congress leaders have surpassed even the film Sholay. You all must remember Mausi ji from the film ‘Sholay’. Arey Mausi, we have lost for the third time but it is a moral victory. Arey Mausi, we have got 0 seats in 13 states, but I still am the hero.”
