Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled a 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in South Goa, marking a significant cultural milestone as part of the Math’s 550th-year celebrations — the ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’.

During his visit to Canacona, PM Modi also inaugurated the newly developed Ramayana Theme Park Garden, launched a special postal stamp, released a commemorative coin, and addressed devotees gathered for the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka, before travelling to Goa for the landmark event.

The Partagali Math, the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math, follows the Dvaita philosophy established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century. Situated along the banks of the river Kushavati, the Math is a significant spiritual centre of the Gowd Saraswat community.

PM Modi also participated in the 'Laksha Kantha Gita' chanting at the Udupi Sri Krishna Math in Karnataka along with one lakh devotees. He also recited verses from Chapter 15 – Purushottama Yoga of Bhagavad Gita – followed by the last 10 shlokas of the final chapter.

Addressing the gathering later, he said, "Participating in the Gita recital with one lakh people is like attaining the fruits of innumerable good deeds. The felicitation and the feelings expressed towards me have given me immense blessings. I will strive to become worthy of what is expected from me and work harder."

Quoting the Ram Charit Manas, the Prime Minister said that in Kalyug, chanting the Bhagavad Gita and kirtans are means of spiritual achievement. He added that when one lakh people recite the Gita in one voice, the vibrations create a new energy and power for both mind and body.
