PM Modi unveils ₹7,300 cr development projects in Manipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled development projects worth over ₹7,300 crore in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to boosting infrastructure, connectivity, and opportunities in the Northeast.
Among the projects are the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project worth ₹3,600 crore, five National Highway projects valued at more than ₹2,500 crore, the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project, and the establishment of Working Women’s Hostels at nine locations.
Addressing a gathering, Modi said the new initiatives will particularly benefit tribal communities living in hill areas by improving healthcare, education, and connectivity. “Manipur is a border state, and connectivity here has always been a major challenge. That is why, since 2014, we have continuously focussed on strengthening Manipur’s infrastructure,” he said.
He noted that in recent years, ₹3,700 crore has been spent on National Highways in Manipur, while fresh works worth ₹8,700 crore are underway.
Modi’s visit, his first to Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023 included meetings with students and local residents, who welcomed him despite heavy rains.
