PM Modi to chair key CCS and CCPA meetings today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) soon. The CCS is the government's highest decision-making body on matters of national security. Later in the day, the Prime Minister will also chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), often referred to as the 'super cabinet' due to its influence and wide-ranging powers.

This development comes a day after PM Modi convened a high-level meeting at his residence in New Delhi, following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. During that meeting, the Prime Minister granted the Indian Armed Forces "complete operational freedom" to respond to the attack.

In the past, similar meetings of the CCPA were held during the Pulwama attack. At that time, the security situation was reviewed and counter-terror strategies were discussed. Days later, on February 26, 2019, the Indian Air Force conducted air strikes on terror camps in Balakot, Pakistan.

The current members of the CCPA include:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Chairperson)

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Home Minister Amit Shah

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal
