PM Modi’s Message From Uzbekistan: Don’t Travel Abroad, Marry In India, Avoid Unnecessary Gold Purchases

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indians to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, hold weddings in India and refrain from buying gold unless it is necessary, as he called for a stronger ‘Swadeshi’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ push to strengthen the domestic economy.

Speaking during his visit to Uzbekistan, PM Modi stressed that greater reliance on Indian products and services would help the country move towards the goal of Viksit Bharat.

‘If You Are Going Abroad, Stop’

PM Modi appealed to citizens to reconsider non-essential foreign travel, particularly when similar activities can be undertaken within India.

“If you are going to any foreign country, then stop,” he said, urging people to spend more within the domestic economy.

‘Get Married In India’

The Prime Minister also specifically appealed to families planning weddings abroad to reconsider the practice.

“If you are getting married abroad, then you should stop it,” PM Modi said, stressing that spending on weddings within India would support local businesses and the country's economy.

‘Don’t Buy Gold If It Is Not Necessary’

PM Modi also urged citizens to avoid unnecessary purchases of gold.

“If it is not necessary, then we should not buy gold,” he said, linking the appeal to his broader call for greater economic self-reliance.

‘Made In India’ Mantra

Calling for greater adoption of Swadeshi products, PM Modi said Indians should prioritise products made domestically.

He said that if citizens increasingly depend on Indian products, the country could achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by the centenary of Independence.

His remarks came as India recorded 7.8% real GDP growth in the April-June quarter of FY27, which the Prime Minister described as evidence of the country's strong economic fundamentals despite global uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and supply-chain disruptions.
