Opposition mulls no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

The opposition is preparing to bring a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, reports citing sources said on Monday, amid escalating tensions in Parliament.
According to reports, senior opposition leaders have held discussions with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and warned that a no-confidence motion will be moved if the opposition is not allowed to speak in the House.
The development comes on a day of intense sloganeering by opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha. Sources said the opposition maintains that Rahul Gandhi wanted to speak on the issue of suspension of MPs and allegations involving women parliamentarians, but was repeatedly denied permission.
Following the uproar in the House on Monday morning (February 9), Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till noon.
Meanwhile, opposition MPs have also demanded action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi alleged that objectionable videos were being made by Sarma in his capacity as chief minister, shared by the Assam BJP’s official handles and later deleted.
He said the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the BJP national president must take action against the Assam CM, asserting that such conduct was unbecoming of a constitutional authority.
The political standoff in Parliament continues, with the opposition insisting on a chance to raise its concerns on the floor of the House.
