Only 12% judges disclose assets public despite SC order, none from Gujarat HC

Despite a recent Supreme Court directive for all judges to declare their assets on the respective websites, only 12% of judges in the country have disclosed their assets publicly. Notably, none of the 25 judges from the Gujarat High Court have disclosed their asset details on the website.
The Supreme Court recently stated that all current and future judges of the Supreme Court must make their asset details public via the official website.
This came after a case where crores of rupees in cash were found during a fire incident at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, who was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
However, only around 12% of judges from both the Supreme Court and various high courts have disclosed their assets.
As of April 11, 2025, only 11.94% of judges had publicly declared their assets on the official websites of the Supreme Court and high courts. Among the 33 Supreme Court judges, 30 have submitted their asset declarations to the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. However, due to certain ‘technical issues’, these details have not yet been made available on the Supreme Court’s website. In fact, none of the 33 judges’ asset details are currently accessible online.
Out of 762 high court judges across India, only 95 — or about 12.46% — have disclosed their asset details online. There are 19 high courts whose judges have not made their asset details public, including some of the largest such as the Allahabad High Court (which has 81 judges), Bombay, Calcutta, Gujarat, and Patna high courts.
On the other hand, judges from the Kerala High Court have led the way in transparency, with 41 out of 44 judges declaring their assets.
Gujarat High Court judges lag behind
According to reports so far, judges from the Gujarat High Court have been the least forthcoming. None of the 25 judges have disclosed their assets on the official website. In contrast, states like Kerala and Punjab & Haryana have shown greater transparency, with many judges making their asset information publicly available.
