Noida Engineer Death: Police Probe Debt, Marital Dispute, Child’s Medical Bills

A 28-year-old software engineer from Gurugram allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 43rd floor of a Noida high-rise amid financial and family-related stress, police said.

Sambhav Jain, from Manesar, had arrived alone at Supernova Spira in Sector 94 and rented a room for a day, according to Sector 126 police.

Police said Jain was seen hanging from the balcony railing before he jumped. People present at the spot tried to persuade him to return to safety, but he died in the incident.

Video Recorded Before Death

According to police, Jain had recorded a video in which he spoke about his distress over mounting debt and held himself responsible for his decision. He did not blame anyone, police said.

He had also been in contact with his father and told him that he would not survive and would die by suicide, police said.

Police have seized his phone and are examining his recent chats and call logs as part of the investigation.

Marital Dispute, Child's Treatment Costs

Sumnesh Kumar, Station House Officer of Sector 126 police station, said Jain was under mental stress linked to family circumstances, his son's health condition, mounting debt and marital discord.

Police said Jain was involved in a marital dispute. His wife had initially demanded ₹1 crore in alimony, but the amount was later settled at ₹15 lakh. Jain had already paid the first instalment of ₹7.5 lakh, according to police.

The couple's baby was born prematurely and treatment costs reportedly exceeded ₹40 lakh, adding to the family's financial burden.

Police Examine CCTV Footage

Police also said Jain weighed around 140 kg and had been facing severe body-image issues and anxiety over his health.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from Supernova Spira and nearby areas. They are also questioning people who were present around the building when the incident took place.
