The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam, taken by students for admission in medical institutes across the country, is currently under scrutiny for inflated results due to irregularities and for providing grace marks.

67 students have scored the full marks, 720 out of 720, which was frowned upon by many as NEET is considered one of the toughest exams to crack. Moreover, 6 out of 67 students belonged to a single exam centre in Haryana, raising speculations of malpractices even further.

Many candidates have taken to social media, questioning how 67 students can get full marks in such a tough exam, as this has ‘never happened before’.

However, after allegations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has denied any kind of irregularity. He said that the extra marks given due to changes in NCERT books and delay in examination centres are responsible for the higher marks.

Earlier, when the answer key was released, the students had complained that some of the answers were correct according to old NCERT books, and some were correct from the new books.

The NTA had then checked the new and old books and found that both the options of the same five questions were correct.

Thus, five questions had two correct answers and the students were awarded marks for checking any of them.

On the other hand, students at some examination centres complained of time delays. These students filed petitions in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab-Haryana High Courts.

After the High Court verdict, 1,563 candidates were given grace marks for lateness, adding to the higher results.

Students believe that there have been irregularities in the NEET exam this year. Hence the candidates are constantly tweeting on Twitter with the hashtag #Neet_paper_Cancel_Karo.

Adding to the irregularities and malpractices was Patna’s case, where fake candidates were caught.

The Bihar police also arrested13 people, including four candidates and their family members, in connection with the paper leak of the NEET examination conducted on May 5.

After this, the investigation into the paper leak was handed over to the EOU of Bihar Police.

According to Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahala, in a major crackdown against cheating during the NEET examination, Delhi’s special staff arrested four people involved in the paper solving racket. Among those arrested are two MBBS students of a government medical college and their accomplices in the conspiracy. Four mobile phones and a car were also seized during the operation.

After all the controversies surrounding the exam and its results, many students have demanded a retake of the NEET exam. However, NTA has rejected the demand stating that there has been no irregularity.
