NMC fines ₹1 cr each to 7 medical colleges over not paying stipends to students

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken a strict action against 7 medical colleges by imposing ₹1 crore on each college over not paying stipend to students and not disclosing the details on college website as per the rules.
As per NMC, it is mandatory for all medical colleges to pay the prescribed stipend to the undergraduate and post-graduate students including government and private colleges. Complaints have arisen over students not being paid the prescribed stipend across the country that led to a petition being filed in the Supreme Court.
After hearing the case, the court mandated all medical colleges to pay stipend and disclose the stipend details on their website. Following this court order, the NMC issued a circular to all medical colleges on July 11, 2025, instructing them to mandatory put the details of the stipends paid to UG and PG students online.
Despite this instruction, 7 medical colleges in the country failed to disclose the stipend details on their website. Due to this, the NMC has taken strict action by imposing ₹1 crore fine on each seven colleges. These colleges include :
Karnataka - Akash Institute
Jharkhand - Dumka Medical College
Rajasthan - Government Medical College, Barmer
Madhya Pradesh - RKDF Medical College
Uttar Pradesh - Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences
Haryana - B.D. Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences
Andhra Pradesh - Government Medical College
Moreover, there are some government colleges from 7 medical colleges including Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana that have not given the stipend details.
