A human trafficking operation pretending to be a charity that organised mass weddings for poor families has been uncovered near Jaipur. The NGO, which claimed to help underprivileged women by arranging their marriages, was actually involved in selling girls to men for large sums of money, as per the reports.

The case came to light when a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh managed to escape from a farmhouse in Sujanpura village, located around 30 kilometres from Jaipur. She went to the police, and her statement led to a raid on the property.

Authorities arrested the woman who ran the NGO, identified as Gayatri Vishwakarma, along with her associate Hanuman and two men named Bhagwan Das and Mahendra, who had allegedly come to buy the teenage girl.

Reports say the NGO, known as Gayatri Sarva Samaj Foundation, was operating out of a secluded farmhouse and was not well-known to the local villagers. The villagers believed it was a genuine group helping girls from poor backgrounds get married. Four months earlier, another girl had also escaped, but locals were unable to understand her language and dismissed her warnings.

Police say Gayatri worked with a network of traffickers who brought girls from states like Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. These girls were then sold to the NGO, which would go on to marry them off to men for amounts ranging between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh. The price reportedly varied based on the girl’s appearance, age, and height.

To cover up the illegal activity, fake identification documents were allegedly created to show that the underage girls were adults. So far, Gayatri is believed to have arranged around 1,500 such marriages and has 10 previous cases registered against her, as per police sources.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the racket and possible involvement of more people.
