Nepal Floods: 4,451 Rescued, 2,426 Still Unaccounted for as Death Toll Hits 616; 25 From Gujarat Missing

The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 616, while 4,451 people have been rescued and 2,426 remain unaccounted for, according to the latest updates from authorities.

Bhote Koshi floods cause widespread destruction

The floods struck the Bhote Koshi River corridor near the Nepal-China border, causing widespread destruction and severely damaging roads, bridges and communication infrastructure along the key Rasuwa-Rasuwagadhi route, which is used by pilgrims travelling towards Kailash Mansarovar.

Amid the ongoing search and rescue operations, 25 people linked to Gujarat have been reported missing or remain uncontactable, according to the latest information compiled by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) on Saturday.

People from several Gujarat districts among missing

The list includes residents and people with roots in Ahmedabad, Anand, Amreli, Kheda, Rajkot, Surat and Valsad, besides several overseas citizens of Indian origin from the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Most of those listed were travelling towards Kailash Mansarovar through the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung corridor when communications were disrupted following the floods.

Among those uncontactable are Kinnari and Mihir Patel of Vadodara, who were travelling with Richa Tours on August 23, and Bimalkumar Patel and Jaimina Patel of Anand, who left on August 16 with Namaste Nepal Trekking and Research Hub.

Ahmedabad travellers among those uncontactable

Ashok Kapadi of Ahmedabad, who travelled with Samrat Tours and Travels on August 25, was last contacted at around 8.30 a,m, near the China-border immigration centre.

The list also includes Jay Kotecha and Roma Intwala in connection with the Friendship Bridge-Bhote Koshi River area. Intwala has subsequently been reported safe in Nepal.

Three Ahmedabad-linked travellers — Paresh Patel, Jyoti Patel and Minaxi Ramani — were last contacted at around 8:10 a.m. on August 26, with no contact established thereafter. All three are identified as US residents with native links to Ahmedabad.

The records further name Dinesh Patel, Umesh Patel, Akansha Patel, Ishan Patel and Shilpa Patel, among others, with American, Canadian and Australian citizenship noted against several names.

NRI travellers also on missing list

Two people from Anand, Padma Patel and Jagdish Patel, were reported missing after reaching Delhi on August 25 for their onward Kailash Mansarovar journey.

Bina Parikh, a US citizen and New York-based NRI with an Indian address in Ahmedabad's Usmanpura area, is also listed. Her last known location was the Nepal-Tibet/Kailash approach corridor along the Bhote Koshi River.

The list also includes Poonam Thakkar, a US-Canadian dual citizen from Ahmedabad now residing in Illinois, and Bavika Ramjee, a South African citizen linked to Surat.

Search and rescue operations continue

Search, rescue and relief operations continue across the affected areas, with authorities working to locate those still unaccounted for and restore road and communication links damaged by the disaster.

The large-scale rescue operation comes as Nepal continues to grapple with the aftermath of the floods, which have caused extensive damage along the Bhote Koshi and downstream river systems.
