Senior Punjab leader Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former Punjab Congress chief and ex-cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, has resigned from the Congress, triggering fresh political churn in Punjab, as per reports.

Dr Sidhu announced her decision in a post on X, in which she launched a sharp attack on Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. She reportedly accused him of mismanaging the party and weakening its organisational structure for personal political advantage.

A former MLA and minister, Dr Sidhu was first elected on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket before joining the Congress along with her husband. In recent years, she has remained in the public eye for her outspoken views on internal party affairs.

Earlier, Dr Sidhu had levelled serious allegations against senior Congress leaders in Punjab and had publicly stated that Navjot Singh Sidhu would return to active politics only if the party projected him as its chief ministerial face in the state. Her remarks reportedly had sparked internal controversy within the party. There were also reports of a possible meeting with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to resolve differences, though the meeting did not materialise, as per reports.

In her latest post, Dr Sidhu accused the Punjab Congress leadership of encouraging internal rivalries, marginalising loyal leaders and selectively rewarding a few individuals with key organisational posts. She further alleged that deliberate attempts were made to undermine her electoral prospects and questioned the leadership’s silence over senior leaders who had openly challenged the party.

“I have enough proof, but I am not interested in destroying anyone. I have quit a party where no promising leader is heard,” she wrote, expressing disappointment over what she described as the erosion of discipline within the Congress.

Her resignation is being viewed as a significant setback for the Congress in Punjab, as the party looks to consolidate its position ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
