In a major breakthrough against international drug trafficking networks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said alleged narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh has been deported from Türkiye and brought back to India.

According to HM, Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the alleged fake identity of Navab Virk and continued trafficking heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into India.

‘Tracked Him Down, Unmasked His True Identity’

In a post on X, HM said Indian agencies had tracked Singh down and uncovered his alleged identity before securing his deportation.

“Modi govt has achieved a historic milestone by securing the deportation of hardened narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Türkiye,” HM said in the post.

“Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation,” he added.

Singh has now been brought back to India and lodged in custody in connection with cases involving alleged drug trafficking and other crimes, according to the Home Minister.

Alleged Afghan Drug Route Under Scanner

The post said Singh had continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India while operating under the alleged false identity.

The deportation brings an accused figure linked by Indian agencies to alleged international narcotics trafficking back within the jurisdiction of Indian investigating agencies.

The Union Home Ministry congratulated the agencies involved in tracking Singh, establishing his identity and securing his deportation from Türkiye.

The Home Minister's statement did not provide further details about the cases registered against Singh, the agencies involved in the operation or the circumstances surrounding his deportation.

Focus On International Drug Networks

The development comes against the backdrop of sustained action by Indian agencies against cross-border narcotics networks and individuals accused of operating from outside the country.

With Singh now back in India, investigating agencies are expected to pursue the cases against him and examine the alleged network through which narcotics were being moved into the country.
