The accused allegedly collected around ₹11 lakh from her in instalments under the pretext of arranging her visa and other documentation.
Passport Allegedly Seized After Arrival
After reaching Portugal, the woman alleged that the agents took away her passport and confined her to a room for two days.
She was then allegedly sold to a beer shop owner and forced to work there, where she claimed she was subjected to severe physical and mental torture.
When she asked the alleged agents to return her passport, they reportedly demanded more money from her.
Woman Escapes And Returns To India
After nearly a month, the woman allegedly managed to escape. She travelled by bus to Lisbon and then went to Madrid before returning to India via Doha.
However, after she reached India, the accused allegedly demanded another ₹3 lakh, claiming it was required to arrange employment for her in Malta.
When she refused to pay, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her husband and implicate her in false cases.
Following the threats, the woman approached Pune Police.
Eight Accused Booked
Police have registered a case against eight accused, including the operators of We Migrate, under provisions relating to alleged human trafficking, cheating and extortion.
Police have launched a search for the accused and are investigating the alleged overseas recruitment network.
