During the interrogation, they confessed that they were handed a consignment of 56 kg of marijuana in Bangkok. The plan was to check in at a hotel outside Mumbai Airport, where a local contact was supposed to collect the drugs.
The accused further admitted that their travel, stay, and expenses were covered by those orchestrating the smuggling operation.
Incidents of narcotic smuggling from Bangkok to Mumbai have been on the rise. In the past two weeks alone, customs officials have intercepted drugs worth ₹70 crore across five separate cases. Acting on confidential information, airport customs officers detained five suspicious passengers from Bangkok. Upon investigation and a thorough search of their luggage, a concealed stash of 56.26 kg of marijuana was uncovered inside trolley bags.
Following the seizure, all five passengers were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
