LS Polls: Actors Akshay Kumar, Janhvi Kapoor among early-bird voters in Mumbai

Voting started peacefully for the fifth and final phase of 2024 Lok Sabha elections for 13 constituencies in Maharashtra, with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar being among the early voters along with many other celebs and commoners, today. 

Voting got underway in all six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai at 7 am with people queuing up outside polling stations to beat the heat.

For Akshay Kumar, 56, who was a Canadian national (2011-2023) who got his Indian citizenship in 2023, it was his maiden vote after getting his new credentials and he displayed his inked finger to the mediapersons and appealed to people to come out and vote in large numbers.

Among celebs and actors were Janhvi Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Rajkumar Rao, Farah Khan, Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar and others also queued up early at polling stations and exercised their franchise proudly.

Lok Sabha candidates of major parties like Congress’ Varsha Gaikwad, Shiv Sena (UBT) Arvind Sawant, City BJP Chief Ashish Shelar, and others also cast their votes.

Shahid took to his Instagram stories and shared a picture of himself sitting in a car, wearing a white T-shirt and sunglasses.

The actor posed for a selfie, showing his inked finger.

He captioned the image: “Cast your vote. Every vote matters.”

The Election Commission’s face, Rajkumar Rao- for messages urging people to go to vote, Rao urged all people to come out and vote as it was their “moral responsibility and duty towards our nation”.

Rao was dressed casually in a maroon T-shirt and denims, and sported a baseball cap. He was seen at the Gyan Kendra High School in Andheri West.

Speaking to the media after casting his vote, Rao said: “I have come and voted today. Please come out in large numbers and cast your vote. It is very important that you cast your vote.” Thereafter, he got himself photographed at a selfie booth set up outside the polling station.

Janhvi was seen in Bandra dressed in pink Indian wear. As she was leaving the venue amid tight security, the shutterbugs asked her to show the inked finger and the actress obliged.

Rajkummar, who was dressed in a maroon T-shirt and denims, was seen at the Gyankendra High School in Andheri West.
