In Kerala’s Thrissur city, a woman has alleged that nine people who do not live at her residence were fraudulently registered to vote using her address.

Her house is located in Poonkunnam, part of the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, the only seat in the state won by the BJP during the 2024 general elections.

The woman, identified as Prasanna, reportedly said she is the sole registered voter from her family at this address, while her other adult family members are enrolled in their native village of Poochinipadam. She said that they have been living here for four years and do not know any of these nine people. Adding names to their address without their consent is unacceptable, she told reporters, adding that she has filed a formal complaint with the district collector.

Prasanna said the matter came to light when someone contacted her for voter verification. Local CPM members alleged that similar irregularities were found in other apartment complexes in Poonkunnam, including Water Lily and Capital Village, with vacant flats allegedly used to transfer votes from other districts. They said the fact that homeowners were unaware of the listed voters underscored the seriousness of the issue.
