Kerala becomes India’s first 100% digitally literate state: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday declared Kerala as the first state in India to achieve 100% digital literacy, a milestone he described as a “giant leap in people’s empowerment.”
Taking to social media platform X, Vijayan wrote: “Kerala has created another history by becoming the first state in India and one of the very few in the world to achieve complete digital literacy. A proud milestone that marks a giant leap in our journey of progress and people’s empowerment.”
According to the Kerala State IT Mission, the achievement comes through the government’s flagship ‘Digi Kerala’ project, under which:
- 83.46 lakh families across the state were surveyed.
- 21.87 lakh individuals, including 15,223 senior citizens above the age of 90, were trained.
- 99.98% of trained participants successfully cleared the digital evaluation.
- Overall, more than 99% of residents aged 14–60 years are now digitally literate.
- Officials said the initiative ensured access to digital training even in remote and rural areas, strengthening Kerala’s reputation as a pioneer in education and technology-driven governance.
