Kaushambi Firecracker Factory Blast: 11 Dead, 5 Injured After Series of Explosions in Uttar Pradesh

At least 11 people were killed and five injured after a massive fire triggered a series of explosions at a firecracker unit in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Monday.

Multiple Explosions Rock Firecracker Unit

The incident took place at a firecracker factory in Manouri Bazaar, under the Pipri police station limits of Kaushambi. The explosions caused extensive damage to the factory premises and nearby structures, with authorities fearing that more people could still be trapped beneath the debris.

The blasts triggered panic in the surrounding area as residents rushed towards the site. Several nearby houses were also damaged, with preliminary assessments indicating that around three houses were burnt and five to six adjoining structures were affected by the impact.

11 Deaths Confirmed, Five Injured

District authorities confirmed that 11 people had died in the tragedy. Five injured people were taken to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment, with officials saying that some of those injured were in serious condition.

A child was also reported to be among the critically injured. Residents helped pull people out of the debris, with some victims suffering burn injuries and being carried to the roadside before ambulances took them to hospital.

The casualty figures could change as rescue personnel continue searching the damaged premises.

NDRF, SDRF and Emergency Teams Deployed

District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma said rescue and relief operations were continuing at the site. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force were deployed alongside police, fire brigade and other emergency personnel.

Four fire tenders and ambulances were initially sent to the location. Personnel from Kaushambi and Prayagraj were involved in the rescue effort, while the nearby Manouri Air Force Station also contributed personnel to the operation.

Authorities cordoned off the affected area to allow rescue teams to search the debris safely and prevent people from entering the damaged structures.

Nearby Houses Damaged

The force of the explosions extended beyond the firecracker unit. Officials said several houses located close to the factory were damaged or collapsed.

Residents living nearby joined the emergency response before the full rescue machinery arrived. Families were seen searching through the rubble for relatives, while others gathered at hospitals seeking information about those injured or missing.

Cause of Blast Under Investigation

The exact cause of the explosions has not yet been established. Authorities are expected to examine the factory's operations, the materials stored at the premises and whether required safety measures were being followed.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether any regulatory violations contributed to the incident. A detailed assessment is expected after the rescue operation and investigation are completed.

Strict Action Promised

District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma said strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the tragedy. Criminal cases will be registered under applicable provisions, while authorities have also indicated that stringent measures, including property attachment, could follow in accordance with government directions.

Compensation Announced

The state government announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the family of each person who died in the blast. The injured will receive Rs 50,000 each, according to the administration.

Rescue and search operations remain underway as authorities work to establish the full scale of the disaster, identify the victims and determine how the explosions began.
