Kangana Ranaut calls for ‘Hindu Rashtra’, repeats ‘independence after 2014’ remark

Updated: May 13th, 2024

Hindi cinema actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has again slipped into controversy while repeating her earlier claim that India had become independent in 2014. She expressed her desire for India to become a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ on May 13.

In her speech during the campaigning for the BJP, the debutante candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi said, “Our ancestors saw slavery from the British Raj and witnessed the Congress party’s exploitation, but we have got true independence in 2014—freedom of thoughts, freedom of Sanatan, freedom to follow our religion, and freedom to make this country a Hindu Rashtra.”

“If they made an Islamic nation after 1947, we will make a Hindu Rashtra now,” she added.

In earlier speeches, Ranaut has been trolled for her remarks where she claimed to receive the same respect as Amitabh Bachchan in the industry.

Once, she also claimed to leave the film industry if she won the upcoming LS election in Mandi.

Kangana is competing in the Mandi constituency, a traditionally Congress-dominated constituency. Her opponent is Vikramaditya Singh from the Congress party, who is the son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh. The election in Mandi has been scheduled for the last phase on June 1.
