Jhansi Speeding Crash Claims Life of Mafia Atiq Ahmed’s Youngest Son, Aban

A high-speed road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district on Thursday reportedly claimed the lives of two individuals, including Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of the late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Three others sustained injuries when their vehicle collided head-on with a concrete road divider along the highway.

The incident occurred near the Khilli area within the jurisdiction of the Poonch police station. Jhansi police officials confirmed that all five occupants were travelling in a Hyundai Creta from Jhansi toward Prayagraj. 

Aban had reportedly traveled to the Jhansi District Jail to meet his incarcerated elder brother, Ali, before setting off on the return journey. Local authorities, alongside Jhansi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), confirmed that Aban and his associate Sonu died from the impact, while the surviving passengers were rushed to a local medical facility for treatment.

Tracing the Downfall of a Criminal Dynasty

The fatal crash reportedly marks another chapter in the violent unraveling of Atiq Ahmed’s family network over recent years. Atiq Ahmed, a former Member of Parliament and five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly from Phulpur, accumulated over 100 criminal charges including murder, extortion, and kidnapping across a four-decade career that began in the late 1970s.

The family's systematic downfall escalated following the February 24, 2023 daylight murder of Umesh Pal, a prime witness in the 2005 assassination of BSP MLA Raju Pal, outside his Prayagraj residence. The resulting crackdown by state law enforcement hit the family in rapid succession:

• April 13, 2023: Atiq’s 19-year-old son, Asad Ahmed, alongside associate Ghulam, both carrying ₹5 lakh bounties for their alleged involvement in the Umesh Pal murder, were killed in an encounter with the UP Special Task Force (STF) near Jhansi.

• April 15, 2023: Just two days after Asad's death, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim (alias Ashraf) were shot dead at point-blank range on live television by three assailants posing as journalists while being escorted by police to a Prayagraj hospital.

The fatal accident in Jhansi reportedly brings a tragic and abrupt closure to the life of Aban Ahmed, the youngest member of a family long embroiled in Uttar Pradesh's crime and political landscape.
