ISRO chief S Somanath diagnosed with cancer on the launch-day of Aditya L-1
In an interview with a Malayali channel, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief S Somanath claimed that he was diagnosed with cancer on the day India’s Aditya-L1 mission launched into space.
In the interview, he said that he had some health issues during Chandrayaan-3, but he was not clear about the disease.
After two months, on the launch day of Aditya L-1 on Sept 2, 2023, he underwent a scan in the morning.
He later went to Chennai and underwent another scan and some tests. Within 2–3 days, he was able to confirm a growth in his stomach, which he said was a hereditary disease.
Following the launch of Aditya L-1, Somanath underwent an operation and, after that, chemotherapy.
In the interview, he said that his family was shocked, but he believes that the disease is curable and will get treatment as its solution.
When asked about his current status, he said that he is ‘uncertain’ and is undergoing the process.
“I will be undergoing regular checkups and scans. But now I am completely cured and have resumed my duties,” Somanath said.
