Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is reportedly expected to visit India this week to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi. The visit comes amid rising tensions in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting will act as a key step ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in September this year. As per reports, leaders of major emerging economies are expected to participate in the summit at a time when geopolitical tensions and global uncertainty continue to increase.

Since the US-Iran conflict reportedly began on February 18, Araghchi has spoken several times with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Their discussions mainly focused on the worsening situation in West Asia and its possible impact on regional and global stability.

During these conversations, Araghchi reportedly briefed India about Tehran’s stand on the conflict and raised concerns over the impact of the reported US and Israeli attacks. He also stressed the need for better coordination among BRICS nations to help maintain international stability. Iran has continued to maintain that it is acting within its “legitimate right of self-defence.”

Araghchi had earlier visited India in May 2025 for the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting. The visit marked the 75th anniversary of the India-Iran Friendship Treaty. During the trip, both countries discussed ways to strengthen political, economic and strategic cooperation. He had also met Jaishankar and President Droupadi Murmu during the visit.
