Indore has become the first city in India where every house will have a digital address linked to a unique QR code.

To eliminate the hassle of address finding and delivery errors, the Indian government has developed this digital address system. Its main goal is to ensure that deliveries and services reach the right location quickly and accurately. It uses a 10-digit alphanumeric code that identifies the exact geo-location of your home or office.

In Indore, the project involves installing special digital plates with unique QR codes outside every house in the city, enabling easy scanning and identification of addresses.

The initiative was launched on a pilot basis on Sunday from Ward Number 82 in the Sudama Nagar area.

The project aims to strengthen smart administration by integrating citizen services with digital technology, allowing residents to access over 20 services with a single scan.

Earlier the government introduced the DIGIPIN. The Department of Posts, Government of India, has developed DIGIPIN – a system that allows every individual to generate a unique digital address for their home or office.

You can visit the official government portal https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/myDIGIPIN  and generate your unique DIGIPIN by marking the exact location of your house or office on a digital map. Once generated you can send it to your friends and family, who will get the exact location.

Benefits of DIGIPIN

No need to describe your address anymore

Makes it easier for delivery services, logistics companies, and emergency responders (like 108 ambulance services) to find exact locations

Significantly reduces delivery errors

Ideal for online shoppers – when used on platforms like Amazon or Flipkart, it ensures the product reaches the correct doorstep
