IndiGo Flight to Bengaluru Diverted to Muscat After Pilot Falls Unwell Mid-Air

An IndiGo flight from Doha to Bengaluru diverted to Muscat on Thursday morning after the captain suffered a sudden medical emergency mid-flight.

Flight 6E 1302 was en route to Karnataka's capital when the pilot-in-command reported acute illness, prompting an immediate turn towards Oman. Emergency medical teams met the aircraft on the tarmac at Muscat International Airport, where doctors evaluated the pilot before transferring him to a local hospital. Officials confirmed his condition has since stabilised.

Relief Aircraft Dispatched

Passengers faced an extended layover in the Gulf state while the airline scrambled to organize replacement crew and machinery. IndiGo dispatched a relief aircraft alongside a fresh flight team from Bengaluru to collect the stranded travellers and complete the final leg of the journey.

Ground staff at Muscat provided food vouchers, beverages, and periodic status updates to passengers waiting inside the terminal departure lounge during the delay.

Priority on Operational Safety

In a statement released hours after the landing, IndiGo confirmed that the diversion followed strict protocol for mid-air medical contingencies involving flight crew.

IndiGo said that flight 6E 1302, operating from Doha to Bengaluru on September 3, had been diverted to Muscat due to an urgent requirement of medical attention for one of the operating crew members. The airline added that the crew member was attended to by the medical team upon landing and was feeling better, and that an alternate aircraft along with a new set of crew had been arranged to continue the journey to Bengaluru.

The airline expressed regret over the disruption, reiterating that passenger and crew welfare governed the decision to abort the original flight path. The replacement service is expected to touch down in Bengaluru later tonight.
