India’s top IITs rank slip as China & Singapore surge ahead in QS Asia Rankings 2026

In the latest QS World University Rankings, Asia 2026, almost all top Indian institutions including seven IITs have seen a sharp decline in their rankings, while universities from China, Singapore, South Korea and Malaysia have moved ahead.
Out of the top 10 Indian institutions listed in Asia rankings, five IITs — Delhi, Madras, Bombay, Kanpur and Kharagpur — have recorded their lowest positions in recent years.

Indian institutions, especially IITs, have been consistently falling behind due to poor international faculty presence, weaker global research visibility and low foreign student enrollment.
