India’s CBSE postpones Class 10, 12 board exams in Middle East amid regional tensions

India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, in parts of the Middle East citing the prevailing security situation.
The decision affects tens of thousands of Indian expatriate students across several countries in the region.
In an official statement on X, the board said the move was taken in view of the “current situation” and stressed that the safety and well-being of students and examination staff remain its highest priority.
The postponement follows heightened geopolitical tensions and military escalations involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which have led to airspace closures, flight cancellations and disruption of normal services in several Middle Eastern nations.
Officials reportedly said such conditions could hamper the smooth conduct of examinations and the safe movement of candidates, invigilators and support staff.
CBSE said the examinations scheduled for March 2 will not be held as planned. Fresh dates for the affected papers will be announced later, once the situation stabilises and logistical arrangements can be ensured.
Schools and students in the impacted regions have been advised to remain in contact with their respective institutions and follow official CBSE communications for updates. The board also cautioned against relying on unverified information.
Education authorities said holding examinations amid unpredictable and volatile circumstances would not be prudent. The Board will closely monitor developments and review the feasibility of conducting subsequent examinations scheduled from March 5.
A formal review meeting has been convened for March 3, 2026, to assess the situation and determine the next course of action.
While the postponement has brought relief to many students concerned about safety, it has also created uncertainty for those preparing for the crucial board examinations. CBSE has clarified that examinations in other international centres and within India will continue as per schedule unless further changes are announced after the March 3 review.
