A wave of patriotic outrage online has led to mass cancellations of travel plans from India to Turkey and Azerbaijan, following public anger over both countries’ vocal support for Pakistan amid ongoing tensions with India. The digital campaign, fueled by calls to boycott these nations, has rapidly translated into real-world actions.

Since Monday , hashtags like #BoycottTurkey, #TurkeyBan #BanTurkey #BoycottAzerbaijan, and #BoycottTurkeyAzerbaijan have trended across social media platforms, especially on X (formerly Twitter). Users not only shared personal decisions to cancel trips but also encouraged fellow Indians to choose alternative destinations such as Greece or Armenia instead.

IndiGo Airlines has come under fire for continuing its agreement with Turkish Airlines, with some users calling for a boycott of the airline altogether. A post by ‘X’ user read:

“Boycott @IndiGo6E if they continue to fly to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Anyway, they are one of the worst bottom 10 airlines in the world.”

Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also joined the movement, announcing the suspension of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Inonu University, Türkiye, citing national security concerns.

The university stated, “Due to national security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Türkiye stands suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the Nation. #NationFirst”

In addition to travel boycotts, users have called on the Indian government to take economic action. A popular demand includes imposing a “complete ban or 500% import tax”  on goods coming from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China.

Another widely shared post recalled India’s aid to Turkey during its devastating earthquake, contrasting it with what they describe as “thankless” support for Pakistan, “India helped #Turkey when it was badly hit by earthquake while this thankless nation is helping #Pakistan whose terrorists killed our innocent nationals mercilessly.”

Following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir and the Indian Army’s retaliatory measures, Indians have shown patriotism by boycotting travel to countries that support Pakistan.
