Indian govt recalls Dr Krishnamurthy Subramaniam from IMF, 6 months before tenure ends

Dr Krishnamurthy Subramaniam, India’s Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, as per a government order of April 30.
Dr Subramaniam, who served as India’s youngest Chief Economic Adviser from 2018 to 2022, was appointed to the IMF role in November 2022. In this capacity, he represented India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan at the IMF.
As per reports, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the termination of Dr Subramaniam’s appointment. His three-year term was originally set to conclude in November 2025. However, the government has not provided any official reason for the early termination.
