India has ranked 105th on Global Hunger Index (GHI) out of 127 countries. The GHI, a tool used to measure and track hunger globally, is based on indicators like undernourishment, child stunting, child wasting, and child mortality

GHI has declared India as a Hunger hotspot saying that the country face serious hunger level. Although it has improved since 2000, Child wasting (Child malnutrition) and stunting remains high.

India ranks at the lowest among the neighboring countries with Nepal ranking 68, Bangladesh ranking 84, Sri lanka ranking 56, Myanmar ranking 74.

As per the GHI report, progress has been noticed in the neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal although the challenges still remain.

Over the past two decades, Nepal has achieved one of the world’s fastest reductions in the prevalence of child stunting, though it still remains a major public health concern.

Whereas Pakistan is struggling with the food shortage ranking at 109 exacerbated by inflation, fiscal deficits, and natural disasters, including severe flooding in 2022.

According to the GHI report, at the current pace, at least

64 countries will not reach low hunger—much less Zero Hunger—by 2030.

If progress remains at the pace observed since 2016, low hunger at global level may not be reached until 2160.
