More than five years after the Galwan clash, the Union Home Ministry reportedly has agreed to issue regular tourist visas to Chinese nationals.

In January 2025, India and China agreed to resume direct passenger flight between countries. Similarly, in June 2025, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra , suspended for five years, was also revived. Following this, the Home Ministry reportedly has agreed to issue visas to Chinese people.

The report states that the Ministry said that all foreign nationals entering in India must carry a valid passport or United Nations laissez-passer along with visas issued by India authorities. The same rule will apply to Chinese nationals also.

They are also prohibited from carrying satellite phones into India on tourist visas like other foreigners do. This step is taken in the significance of the 2025 Phalgam massacre, in which 26 tourists were killed in Baisaran Valley. Investigators had relied on human intelligence and satellite phone data to track down the Pakistani militant involved.

The visa conditions for Buddhist pilgrims and family members of Chinese diplomats have also been eased. However, a decision on extending e-visa facilities is still pending, the report notes.

Reportedly, the regular visas which are going to be issued cover categories such as tourist, business, employment, student and entry visas for Chinese nationals. The process involves completing an online application and submitting a hard copy with supporting documents.
