India has over 96 cr voters for upcoming general elections, says ECI
More than 2 cr young electors, spanning the 18–19 and 20–29 age groups, were on the electoral roll

As Lok Sabha polls are around the corner, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said today that 96.88 cr people are registered to vote for the forthcoming general elections in India.
An increase of 6% was recorded in registered voters from the last Lok Sabha polls of 2019. “Largest electorate for general elections over 96.88 cr electors registered across the country,” said ECI.
The Special Summary Revision 2024 (SSR 2024) also revealed that more than 2 cr young electors, spanning the 18–19 and 20–29 age groups, were on the electoral roll.
Over 2 lakh centenarians (100+ years old) will be voting in the general elections, according to ECI numbers.
As per SSR, over 2.63 cr new electors have been included in the electoral roll, out of which around 1.41 crore are female electors, which surpassed the newly enrolled male voters (1.22 crore) by over 15%.
The gender ratio has increased from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024; the same was 928 in 2019.

In a bid to make the electoral roll inclusive, a special focus was undertaken to achieve 100% registration of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG).
This time, the Commission has also completed the revision of electoral rolls in Jammu & Kashmir and Assam, following the delimitation of constituencies.
The final electoral roll of J&K stands at 86.94 lakh and 2.43 cr for Assam.
