IIT Delhi students report illness on social media after eating mess food, institute blames external sweets

A Reddit post has alleged that multiple students at IIT Delhi fell ill after consuming food from the hostel mess. The student claimed that he and several hostel residents experienced symptoms of food poisoning – including diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal issues – after eating litti chokha served in the mess.

The student criticised IIT Delhi, expressing frustration that students are required to pay for mess food without the option to opt out, only to receive unhygienic meals in return.

According to the post, some students were treated on campus, while others had to be rushed to a hospital via ambulance.

Initially, the institute denied any issue with the mess food, stating that the students had consumed sweets from an external vendor, which allegedly caused the illness. However, the administration later confirmed that a gastro-related outbreak had occurred and announced the deferral of one examination.

A screenshot shared on Reddit shows that the exam originally scheduled for April 30 has been postponed to May 8, 2025. The rest of the exam schedule remains unchanged.
