IIT Bombay graduate raises concern over rising cost of living in India

An IIT Bombay graduate has raised alarm over the rising cost of living in India, stating that even smaller cities are no longer spared.
Bengaluru-based Monali Dambre, a founding team member at Agro, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice her concern.
Monali expressed genuine worry about how the middle and lower classes will manage to survive in the coming years. Drawing from personal experience, she noted that her grocery bills in Bengaluru have started to feel unusually high.
Despite living in a relatively well-paying tech hub, she highlighted that her grocery expenses are skyrocketing.
She also pointed out that the price surge isn't limited to exotic fruits and vegetables — even basic essentials have become unaffordable.
Reacting to it, one of the X users commented, “Real Estate is the biggest culprit. People end up paying very high rents and EMIs, also all businesses need to keep prices high just to cover the exorbitant rents of their premises.”
Another said “Sad thing is government will not do anything, because all politicians' black money is hoarded in Real Estate. Any country that can fix its real estate can keep the costs low for everyone”
While another user commented “Earn to living cost ratio is really bad in poor countries like India. Rent, medical, transportation, education, food everything is many times more expensive than developed countries when you compare with earning there.”
