IIM Ahmedabad graduate shares family’s ordeal after alleged extortion, false case by sister-in-law
An IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Gandhinagar graduate shared her family’s distressing experience of alleged extortion by her former sister-in-law.
Prathyusha Challa’s brother, an assistant professor at an engineering college in Hyderabad, married a woman from Rajahmundry in 2019. However, their marriage ended within just 10 days.
During these 10 days, she allegedly misbehaved with the Challa family, barred her husband from entering the room and threatened the family that she would commit suicide.
“This was the plan of extortion by my sister-in-law, her sister, brother, and her boyfriend,” Challa said.
Moreover, 10 days after leaving the family home, the wife filed a 498A case (related to cruelty by the husband or his family) against Challa’s family.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged without any investigation, and counselling, as per the directions of the Supreme Court she said in the video.
Challa discussed the struggles of her family amid the false allegations of her sister-in-law.
“My brother travelled 40 times from Hyderabad to Rajahmundry without any hope of justice and unable to start a family of his own,” said Challa with disappointment in her tone.
Being an IIM Ahmedabad graduate she said that she “lost many professional opportunities due to a criminal case pending against me”.
“Why does it take 5 years to get justice for the marriage of 10 days?” she asked.
In her video, Challa requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Home Minister Amit Shah, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Chief Minister of Telangana Anumula Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, to expedite the trial dates for Article 498 cases in the country.
“People are losing their faith in marriage,” she pleaded.
She requested to impose penalties on petitioners to not attend the court, and impose strict punishments for filing false accusations.
She concluded her over 5-minute YouTube videos titled ‘Is Suicide the only Solution?’ with concluding remarks “justice is due”.
