'He Misused My Name': Chirag Paswan Files Police Complaint After Influencer Boasts Political Immunity in Viral Assault Video

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has lodged a formal police complaint against right-wing influencer Swatantra Bharadwaj, accusing him of misusing his name to claim political protection after allegedly assaulting a protester's father in New Delhi.

Speaking to reporters in Patna on Friday, Paswan voiced outrage over a viral video in which Bharadwaj boasted on a podcast about beating the father of student protester Nishu Azad during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Bharadwaj claimed Delhi Police spared him due to his high-level political connections, naming Paswan among other leaders.

What Triggered the Political Row

The controversy stems from a recorded podcast where Bharadwaj openly admitted to physically attacking the victim with enough severity that it could have turned fatal. He suggested his political ties shielded him from law enforcement action.

The video sparked immediate outrage and led to a sharp demonstration outside the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party. Facing intense pressure, Delhi Police assured protesters they would arrest Bharadwaj within 72 hours under strict charges, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and attempt to murder.

Paswan Rejects Ties, Demands Strict Action

Distancing himself completely from the influencer, Paswan stated that public figures interact with thousands of people daily, but taking photographs or meeting briefly does not translate into personal acquaintance or political patronage.

"A person is openly admitting that he has beaten someone so severely that it could possibly have led to his death," Paswan said, warning that failing to act against such brazen claims would set a dangerous precedent for the legal system.

The minister confirmed he approached the authorities to clear his name and push for an uncompromised probe. He added that his party takes full responsibility to stand in solidarity with Nishu Azad and her family to ensure the law takes its course.

What Lies Ahead in the Investigation

With the 72-hour deadline set by Delhi Police currently underway, investigators face mounting pressure to trace and detain Bharadwaj. Paswan’s formal complaint adds significant legal momentum to the case, effectively stripping the accused of the political cover he publicly claimed to possess.
