Gurugram Biker Hit-And-Run: Accused Kalyan Baisla Arrested in Rajasthan

Kalyan Baisla, the prime accused in the high-profile Gurugram hit-and-run case, has been apprehended in Rajasthan's Dausa. Law enforcement officials confirmed that local teams tracked him down and he will be brought back to Gurugram for formal interrogation. The arrest follows intense public backlash and swift police action after a viral video showed a car deliberately hitting a female biker on the Golf Course Road.

Attempt-To-Murder Charges Added to FIR

After the incident, Gurugram Police registered a suo motu FIR at the Sector-56 Police Station after their Social Media Monitoring Cell intercepted a viral video on September 14 showing a car hitting a female two-wheeler rider on Golf Course Road. Officials stated that no written complaint had been received from the victim yet, but police initiated action and were attempting to contact her.

Earlier in the day, Gurugram Police upgraded the legal case by adding Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder. The modification came after the victim, a woman biker named Sia, and her family formally approached investigators to demand harsher legal action. The offence carries a potential prison sentence of up to ten years. Police officials stated that lawlessness on city roads will invite zero tolerance.

Victim and Family Recount the Ordeal

The victim Sia's brother stated that the incident had taken place the previous morning. He mentioned that they had not informed their parents at home initially, although their parents had sensed that something was wrong. He added that she had first attributed her discomfort to body pain from the gym.

According to him, Sia had called him first when the accident occurred to inform him about it. He noted that he initially thought she had slipped, but she then explained that it was a hit-and-run, stating that someone had been chasing her and making abusive gestures. He pointed out that people must have seen the video showing her signalling them to keep their distance, while the occupants rolled down their window to make offensive gestures. He stated that there were four people in the vehicle, all of whom were drunk, based on what she had told him.

He noted that the incident had happened between 7:30 and 8:00 AM, and that the men had likely been out drinking since the night before before encountering her on the road in the morning. He also mentioned that she was experiencing something akin to trauma. Regarding the legal proceedings, he stated that concerning the FIR registered in Gurugram, their lawyer had spoken to the SHO about further action, and they would also be filing an FIR on their own behalf.

Sia's family submitted a written statement to the Station House Officer of the Sector 56 police station detailing the incident. Speaking to reporters, family members highlighted that Sia suffered severe muscle pain and acute physical distress following the collision. They maintained that four individuals were inside the vehicle during the attack, and the victim managed to identify at least two of them clearly.

Accused Expresses Regret Over Collision

Kalyan Bainsla, the man accused of chasing and hitting a woman biker with his car in Gurugram, stated to India Today that the bikers had turned their motorcycle without looking into the car's mirror and lost control, leading to the collision. He maintained, "Let's assume that the collision happened accidentally. I accept that a mistake happened."

He further claimed that he had been asking the bikers to ride more slowly rather than attempting to hit them, noting that he was saying in the video they were riding well but needed to ride slowly and stop troubling him repeatedly, while insisting that the complete video should be examined.

Regarding the incident, Bainsla stated that he regretted the woman was injured but claimed he did not know she was riding the motorcycle at the time, offering an apology that a mistake happened and adding that he did not know there was a girl on it. He also mentioned that he would respond to allegations if they affected his family, stating that if people said such things and it came to his family, he would definitely speak up to say nothing like that happened. Additionally, Bainsla stressed that he had no previous criminal cases against him, affirming that there had never been a case registered in his name.

Vehicle Owner Distance Himself From Incident

The registered owner of the car, an army personnel named Manish, clarified that a friend had borrowed the vehicle two days prior to the incident. Speaking to media channels, Manish stated he was at work when Kalyan took the car and only discovered the collision through news reports. He attempted to contact the accused without success and subsequently dispatched family members to check on the situation at the suspect's residence in Palwal.
