Filling votes and vaults: Govt collects ₹400 cr in taxes from Ayodhya Ram Temple in 5 years
The Centre has collected ₹400 crore in taxes in five years from the Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust, the centre of faith of crores of Hindus. Even before the construction of the temple could finish, taxes have been levied.
At the same time, the government has been offering tax relaxations to industrialists raking in billions.
Moreover, waivers on loans, cheaper loans, subsidies, and other reliefs are offered to these billionaires. Add to that these same industrialists have turned defaulters, if the past is a yardstick.
In fact, in the last 10 years, banks have waived loans worth more than ₹12 lakh crore taken by industrialists. According to RBI data, the non-performing assets of government banks reached ₹3,16,331 crore as of September 30, 2024, while the figure for private banks is ₹1,34,339 crore.
In contrast, a total of ₹2,150 crore has been spent on the construction of the Ram Temple and the purchase of its land in the last five years.
The temple trust has received nationwide support from the society. Crores of devotees of the country have donated from ₹10 to ₹1 lakh or more for the construction of the Ram Temple.
With the staggering collection of taxes, questions are now being asked why the elite industrialists are exempt from taxes and the same temple that has been at the centre of vote politics in this country has been taxed heavily.
