Goldy Brar’s parents detained in Punjab over extortion, ransom threat case

Punjab Police have detained the parents of notorious gangster Goldy Barar in connection with an extortion and criminal intimidation case registered in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. The case involves threat calls and a ransom demand of ₹50 lakh,officials confirmed on Monday.

​According to police, Brar’s parents, Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, resident of Adesh Nagar on Kothapura Road, were taken into custody following an FIR registered on December 3, 2024, at the police station Sadar, Sri Muktsar Sahib. The case has been filed under sections 308(4), 351(1), and 351(3) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

FIR linked to ransom threats

​The FIR was lodged based on a complaint by a villager from Udekaran , a long-serving employee of the Education Department. The complainant alleged that on November 27, he received multiple Whatsapp calls from an international number. The caller allegedly claimed to be associated with the Bambiha Group and demanded ₹50 lakh, threatening to kill the complainant and his family if the money was not paid.​

The caller reportedly demonstrated knowledge of the victim’s personal details and residence , causing panic among family members. On December 3, after receiving another call, the complainant approached the police seeking strict action.

​Goldy Brar is a key accused in the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Investigators alleged he operated in coordination with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and later publicly claimed responsibility for the killing. Brar is believed to be residing in Canada, where authorities have reportedly listed him among the most wanted. ​

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and all possible links in the case are being examined.
