‘Ganja’ worth ₹9 cr seized at Delhi airport, 4 Bangkok fliers arrested

Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport arrested four Indian passengers for alleged drug smuggling after contraband worth about ₹9 crore was recovered from their possession, officials said on Thursday.
The passengers, who arrived from Bangkok, landed at the airport on April 21 and were intercepted by officials on the basis of profiling, according to a statement.
As per reports, their baggage was subjected to X-ray screening and a detailed examination, during which nine polythene packets containing a green-coloured substance suspected to be ganja, or marijuana, were recovered from three trolley bags, it said.
All four accused were arrested on Wednesday, and the seized contraband, along with packing materials, has been taken into custody, officials said.
“The total net weight of the seized substance is 8,925 grams, with an estimated value of approximately ₹8.925 crore,” the statement said, adding that preliminary testing confirmed it to be ganja/marijuana.
According to officials, the accused were found to be in violation of provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Further investigation is under way.
