A 29-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh has turned nine years of disciplined saving into a major personal milestone — buying a plot of land in her own name. Diksha Jaiswal, who funded her education through teaching and sports-related work, said she saved coins, cash and small amounts of gold in clay piggy banks and cloth bags before finally using the money to purchase the property in July 2026.
Why Diksha Jaiswal Started Saving
Jaiswal told Humans of Bombay that her decision to own land was shaped by what she saw her elder sister experience after marriage.
She said she often heard that a girl’s “real home” would be either her father’s or her husband’s. But after watching her sister deal with insecurities following her marriage in 2017, Jaiswal decided she wanted to create a foundation of her own.
Her journey towards financial independence, however, had begun years earlier.
In 2012, after her father met with an accident, Jaiswal started teaching children in her village to support her education. She later funded her B.Com, M.Com and B.P.Ed studies herself. She also played hockey and taught karate to earn money and pay her fees.
Nine Years Of Saving In Gullaks
Jaiswal said she never relied on complicated investments or the stock market. Instead, she focused on saving a portion of whatever she earned.
Money went into clay piggy banks, old cloth bags and small pieces of gold. She continued the practice for nine years without using the savings, despite the temptation to spend the money on other things.
That discipline eventually helped her accumulate enough to make the purchase she had been working towards.
In July 2026, she opened the piggy banks and counted years’ worth of savings, including coins and cash bundles, along with her gold savings. She then used the accumulated money to buy a plot of land in her own name.
Parents Were Initially Hesitant
Jaiswal said her parents were initially unsure about her decision to purchase land independently. They worried that buying property on her own could mean she was moving away from marriage or that she was delaying it because of her age.
Their concerns changed when they saw the property.
Jaiswal recalled that standing on the plot with her parents and seeing her father write her name on the soil was an emotional moment for her.
‘Build A Space Of Your Own’
Sharing a message for other women, Jaiswal urged them to work towards financial independence instead of waiting for someone else to provide them with a home or financial security.
She encouraged women to earn their own money, protect their independence and gradually build something of their own through consistent choices and savings.

Social Media Praises Her Financial Discipline
The story drew praise on social media, with users applauding Jaiswal for choosing to invest years of savings in property rather than spending it on items such as a car or phone.
One user called her “the smartest human” on their feed, while another wished her good fortune and hoped the land would bring her further prosperity.
Jaiswal also responded to a comment about how difficult it was to save large amounts of money, saying: “Kamana padta h, koi dega to nahi hoga dear” — pointing out that such savings come from earning and consistent effort.
