Four Killed, One Injured After Vehicle Plunges Into 200-Metre Gorge in Kullu

Four people were killed and another injured after a car plunged into a 200-metre gorge near Haripur in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district early Tuesday.

The accident occurred around 3.30 am on National Highway 305 when a Hyundai Exter carrying five people went off the road while returning from a wedding ceremony in Kumarsain, police said.

Four Killed In Kullu Gorge Accident

The deceased were identified as Rahul Rana, Vikas, Gunjan and Bal Krishan, all residents of Jabbo village in the Anni area.

The injured passenger was identified as Suresh Kumar. Four occupants died at the spot, while Kumar was rescued and taken to Civil Hospital in Anni before being referred to Rampur Hospital for further treatment.

Rescue Operation At Haripur

After receiving information about the crash, teams from the district administration, police and fire services reached the site and began a rescue operation.

The steep terrain and depth of the gorge made the operation difficult. Rescue efforts continued until around 8 am, according to officials.

The Kullu District Disaster Management Authority coordinated the response with the Police Control Room, Tehsildar Anni, SDPO Anni and SDM Anni. Anni MLA Lokender Kumar also monitored the rescue operation.

Police Probe Accident Cause

The bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police have registered an investigation to determine how the vehicle left the highway and plunged into the gorge.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established.
